Про ПРО
Согласно сообщению "Коммерсанта", (а затем NYT) Обама написал Медведеву что готов заморозить размещение ПРО в Чехии и Польше в обмен на более уступчивую позицию по Ирану.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with the United States trying to get Russia's cooperation. And there is absolutely no reason why Russia should not cooperate with the United States, be it on constraining Iran's missile program or on something else. But by linking that cooperation to the issue of missile defense the U.S. administration is reinforcing the exactly wrong perception that many in Russia have about that system - that missile defense is put in Eastern Europe to pressure Russia. Which is precisely what one would want to avoid.
I wouldn't say I expected something much different from the new administration. Thinking about Russia in Washington has been very simplistic for quite a while on both sides of the partisan divide. But it is still very disappointing to see the new administration continuing the grand old tradition of U.S. diplomacy - trying to get something for nothing.

Вообще-то то что планируемая система ПРО имеет очень мало отношения к Ирану (а имеет отношение к России, а так же восточноевропейским бананореспубликам) - вещь ну уж слишком прозрачная. Причём не только в практическом смысле, но и в демонстративном тоже - что было наглядно подтверждено как быстро, в считанные дни все остаточные вопросы были утрясены и программа утверждена окончательно сразу после августовской войны. Прикидываться целкой сейчас - совсем уж смешно.
Что вовсе не исключает возможностей договориться о чём-нибудь. Вовсе не обязательно конкретно про Иран и ПРО, но в целом по всему спектру вопросов пост-советского пространства и Ближнего Востока. Первые сигналы от Обамы действительно довольно позитивные - что получится пока не ясно, но пробовать стоит.
